St. Dympna – Stress, Anxiety and Mental Health St. Dymphna is patroness of those who suffer through stress, anxiety and mental illness. She was only 15 when she was martyred in defense of her purity. When her mother passed, her father was afflicted with mental illness and attempted to marry her. After fleeing her home, her father found her and killed her. While some have never heard of St. Dymphna, she is growing in popularity because of the growing world of stress, fear and anxiety we live in. St. Luke the Evangelist – Surgery St. Luke is the patron saint of surgeons. He was one of the earliest converts to Christianity and also a skilled physician. He is highly recognized, well-known for writing the Gospel, according to Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. During World War II he housed over 3000 Polish refugees at his monastery, was imprisoned and sent to Auschwitz and volunteered to die in place of the stranger in that death camp. St. Rita of Cascia – Difficult Marriages St. Rita of Cascia was a wife, mother, widow and then nun and reflected holiness throughout each phase of her life. Even though she dealt with abuse in her marriage, she prayed for her family and still remained dutiful at home. When her husband died, she was admitted to the convent of Augustinian nuns at Cascia. She is the patroness of hopeless causes, victims of abuse and widows and welcomes your prayers and petitions for help, patience and healing in marriage and home life.
